The purpose of this project was to create a unique artistic experience to accompany the rock band Hum’s legendary album “You’d Prefer an Astronaut”. The reason behind the re-design of the artwork was to celebrate the album’s 25th anniversary and to relate the imagery towards the lyrics and themes of the album. My design choices for this project come from the theme of being isolated and longing to be back with a loved one. I used free imagery from NASA as well as my own photography and reversed the images to make the negative space appear white to provide an isolated atmosphere. The orange/purple color derived from the colorful melodies which were contrasted with the black ink color to help the colors pop.
